We take part with two subprojects in Phase 2 of the transregional Collaborative Research Center TRR 318 "Constructing Explainability". Subproject C07 “Co-construction-following large language models for explaining” explores how to train large language models to generate explanations alongside users. The focus is on AI systems recognizing in dialogue what has already been understood, where uncertainties still exist, and how explanations can be built up step by step. The researchers are developing new methods to enable language models to capture the course of a conversation and incorporate specific knowledge and contextual information. The goal is to facilitate context-sensitive, co-constructive explanations.
