KISSKI: New AI Service Center in Hannover and Göttingen

At the Universities of Hannover and Göttingen, the BMBF funds the KISSKI AI Services center. Research will focus on the fields of medicine and energy because, as critical infrastructures have special requirements for the secure handling of sensitive data.

The increased demands of research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), continuously more powerful hardware and the increasing availability of data and algorithms have led to enormous advances in the context of AI. To address this process for critical infrastructures, in particular in the fields of energy and medicine, and to act in the future as a competent contact partner in the future, five institutions from the center of Germany are researching how an AI service center can be established. The joint project "AI Service Center for Sensitive and Critical infrastructures" is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education (BMBF) and period of 3 years with 17 million euros in funding.

The project partners are the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH (GWDG), the University of Hannover (incl. the Institute of AI - LUHAI), aQua - Institut für angewandte Qualitätsförderung und Forschung im Gesundheitswesen GmbH and the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology. The goal is to establish a service center for artificial intelligence, which will offer various user-centered services and will conduct supporting research. Research will focus on the fields of medicine and energy because, as critical infrastructures have special requirements for the secure handling of sensitive data.
